Errol Spence, Jr. Makes First Defense Of His Title At The Star In Frisco, Texas

Southpaw IBF Welterweight Champion Errol Spence, Jr. (23-0, 20 KO's) defends his world title in front of his hometown fans against Carlos Ocampo (22-0, 13 KO's) from Mexico.

This will be Spence' second defense of his title, after going to England and taking the belt away from Kell Brook (37-2, 26 KO's) in 2017. After getting the title from Brook, he defended it against former world champion Lamont Peterson (35-4, 17KO's).

Spence is on quest for all the welterweight belts and Ocampo is a mandatory defense on his way for another eventual fight for another belt in the division.

According to Spence, "This has been a lifelong dream of mine. I can't wait to fight in front of my hometown fans that have been rooting for me since the amateurs."

This will be the first major boxing event at the Star, the home of America's team, the Dallas Cowboys, who Spence has been a fan of all his life. At his last press conference at the Star, he said, "Real pressure was fighting against 30,000 fans in the champion's hometown for my first title against Kell Brook. This is me fighting in front of people who love me and who have seen me grow up as a boxer. I can't wait to put on a show for them."

For Ocampo, an undefeated fighter, who has not fought out of his home country Mexico, it is a great opportunity to show his boxing skills and attempt to get the upset. "It's supposed to be tough with the crowd against me, and I know I'm the underdog, but my mind is only on the fight. I'm just fighting one man, not a whole crowd. I know that I have what it takes."

The fight will be held on June 16, 2018 and will be televised by SHOWTIME, and presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

Also on the card is Danny Roman vs. Moises Flores, 12 rounds, for Roman's WBA junior featherweight title.

And also on the card is world title contender, Roberto Marroquin (27-4, 20 KO's) from Dallas, Texas, who has won his last two fights and is moving his way up in the super featherweight division.
