Canelo and Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. Ready To Rumble In Las Vegas

On May 6, 2017, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (48-1-1, 38 KO's) and Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. (50-2, 31 KO's), the son of maybe the most famous fighter of Mexico, will face each other in the ring in Las, Vegas at the T-Mobile Center.

This matchup puts two of the most recognizable fighters from Mexico in what could turn out to be the fight of the year on Cinco De Mayo weekend, which will be shown on HBO PPV. The fight which will be held at the new T-Mobile Center in Las Vegas is already sold out!

Both fighters have agreed to meet at a catchweight of 164.5 pounds, an increase of 9.5 pounds for Canelo and a drop of considerable weight for Chavez, who has had trouble making 168 pounds. But this time, Chavez appears to be serious and has hired new trainer Nacho Beristain, the trainer of the legendary Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KO's).

On the Co-Main event, former middleweight champion David Lemieux (37-3, 33 KOs), 28, will take on Marcos "Dorado" Reyes in a scheduled 10-round fight. Lemieux is back to his winning ways after losing his title to Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (37-0, 33 KO's) by winning his last three fights coming into this fight. Rumors are, that if Alvarez and Lemieux both win their fights, they could possibly meet in September if the Alvarez / Golovkin negotiations do not finalize.

If that isn't enough fireworks, it has just been announced that Super Lightweight Lucas Matthysse (37-4, 34 KOs) will take on the undefeated Emmanuel Taylor (20-4, 14 KOs), 26, of Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland, in a 10-round welterweight fight.

Golden Boy has also announced that featherweight southpaw Joseph "JoJo" Diaz Jr. (23-0, 13 KOs), from South El Monte, California, will open the pay-per-view telecast against Manuel "Tino" Avila (22-0, 8 KOs), 24, of Fairfield, California.

Also scheduled on the undercard is the debut of middleweight Raul Curiel with a fighter to still be determined.
