VERGIL ORTIZ, JR. IS MAIN EVENT ON DAZN AGAINST SOLOMON

Undefeated top welterweight prospect Vergil Ortiz, Jr. (14-0, 14 KO's) from Grand Prairie, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, Texas ends 2019 by taking on 36 year old veteran Brad Solomon (28-1,9KO's).

The fight takes place on Friday night at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio California, live on DAZN and in an arena where Ortiz has fought five times and where he initially made his professional debut.

Solomon has not fought in over a year and a half, but not on purpose. He was scheduled for some fights but they never happened for one reason or another. Yet, despite the setbacks, he has stayed in the gym and kept in shape.

The question is, how long can he keep up with the young knockout artist Ortiz. Ortiz is now just settling in as a welterweight, and slowly getting into the spotlight for much bigger fights down the road.

The welterweight division is the hottest division in boxing and eventually he will get his shot against the likes of Danny Garcia, who by the way would be the perfect opponent. In my opinion, Ortiz would either knockout Garcia or win by unanimous decision.

At todays' weigh-in, Ortiz surprisingly came in at 148, one pound overweight, but had two long hours to take it off. He eventually knocked off the extra pound on the second try at the scales, which was not a surprise. Solomon tipped the scales at 146.8 pounds.

The fight is a twelve round scheduled match and is the main event of the night. Look for Ortiz to put on a technically sharp fight with his speed and power in both hands. I don't expect it to go the distance and Ortiz will not only be looking to keep his undefeated record, but he will also be looking for his fifteenth knockout in a row as well.
